I created this site for the first phase of Number10’s Spending Challenge crowdsourcing initiative.
The UK’s 6 million public sector staff were invited to submit ideas on how to spend money more effectively and reduce waste in the civil service.
I had less than two weeks to create and test the site, so I built it a using WordPress, which proved ideal for the submission and moderation of people’s ideas.
The site received over 63,000 ideas from public sector employees.
Each suggestion was reviewed and categorised in the WordPress CMS by a group of ‘Spending Challenge Champions’.
These champions then summarised all of the ideas into 1,800 policy proposals, which were then reviewed to determine what ideas could most improve efficiency and savings.
The site was a great success and paved the way for ‘Spending Challenge Phase 2’, the submission of ideas by the general public.
